Grilled Lobster Tail Recipe — The Mom 100 - The Mom 100

Image
Grilling Lobster Tails If someone were to ask me what the most decadent grilled meal I could envision was, I think the answer would have to be grilled lobster tail.  Lobster tail is — by and large — the most prized portion of one of the most beloved luxe foods around. And, as has been stated by people wiser than myself, grilling make most everything better. So imagine the math on this one! What Kind of Lobster Tail to Grill You can grill any kind of lobster, as you can grill any kind of crustacean, and there are a couple of different lobster tails you might find on the market.  Maine lobsters have hard shells and are usually a deep reddish brown, turning a much brighter red when cooked.  Where I live, in the Northeast, this is the most commonly available lobster tail on the market. Spiny lobsters, which might also be labeled rock lobsters or Florida lobsters, have sharp spines as the name suggests, and their shells te

Extreme heat wave cooked acres of shellfish, spared others, study finds - KUOW News and Information

An estimated 1,100 people died in the extreme heat of June 2021 in British Columbia, Oregon, and Washington. So did millions of sea creatures. While the record-smashing heat killed shellfish across areas spanning hundreds of miles, a new study finds that animals on some beaches escaped with much less damage than others. Along Puget Sound, the withering heat coincided with extremely low afternoon tides. The unfortunate combination exposed clams, oysters, mussels, sea snails, and barnacles to triple-digit temperatures for hours at a time. "They were cooking in their own shells," said study coauthor Julie Barber, a shellfish biologist for the Swinomish Tribe. Species like acorn barnacles, which tend to live at the upper end of beaches and spent much more of the heat wave out of the water, were harder hit than clams and oysters just a few feet lower. Fewer shellfish died on beaches that faced north or had overhanging vegetation or cool water seeping up

Giant Pufferfish Devours Crab Alive in Terrifying Viral Video - Newsweek

Image
A video of a giant fish devouring a live crab with a satisfying crunch is going viral online, with the clip watched more than 20 million times. The short video starts with a yellow crustacean standing at the bottom of a tank, when a patterned yellow pufferfish swims up next to it. In a matter of seconds the fish hoovers up the crab and chomps it into numerous pieces, with the cracking of the shell clearly audible as the predator devours its meal. The Mbu pufferfish is the mascot of the Aquarium Co-op store, in Washington, and is called Murphy. Worker, Cory McElroy, regularly shares feeding clips online of Murphy—who is almost two feet long—and the store even has a live cam so fans can check in on the "beloved" pufferfish. Murphy's diet consists of shellfish, including mollusks, clams and mussels. He's also fed crustaceans, including fiddler crabs, which Cory adds into the tank live for the Mbu to hunt. The viral feeding clip was later shared to TikTok by user Ryan, wh

Tips You Need When Cooking With Mussels - Tasting Table

Image
According to Pei Mussels, you should only buy fresh (i.e. live) mussels. This means that they can go bad — fast. So, you really want to pay attention to your mussels to ensure that you're not eating anything that's off. Luckily, it's easy to determine whether they're still good to eat or not. It all comes down to giving them a good sniff. If there's something off, you're going to smell it — any hint of funk means that they've gone bad and should be avoided. What you're looking for is a fresh, briny smell. Essentially, your mussels should smell like the ocean. The smell is more like seaweed than it is like fish, so if you encounter an intense fishiness, that's also a sign that your mussels may have passed their best-by date. While you can keep fresh mussels in your fridge for a day or two, you're generally better off buying your mussels the day you want to cook them. That way, you can feel confident that they're fresh.
