This is the painful moment a baffled cat crashes into the glass side of an aquarium and slides down the wall when it tries to catch a fish.

The clip, recorded last week in the city of Perm in central Russia, shows the white pet perched on a sofa opposite the aquarium.

The cat stares intently at a fish in the wall tank and follows it along the sofa.

The adorable pet even moves its head around as it matches the movement of the fish.

After crawling up and down the sofa to align itself with its prey, the cat prepares to go in for the kill.

It leans forward then leaps towards the tank - but smashes its face straight into the glass side.
