Rhode Island events featuring food to try this weekend - The Providence Journal

It feels like summer right now, doesn't it? So, let's get out and have some fun eating and drinking. Here are five plus ways to have some fun this week and weekend.

It's the 6th annual Quahog Week through Saturday, May 21.

As part of the week-long observance, restaurants will feature quahog-inspired specials on their menus, and participating markets will offer deals for cooking their own clam dishes at home.

For example, The Coast Guard House, 40 Ocean Rd., Narragansett, (401) 789-0700, thecoastguardhouse.com, will have featured specials of housemade Stuffies and Linguine & Clams as well as daily specials.

Markets, including Fearless Fish in Providence and Tony's Seafood in Seekonk, will have fresh quahogs.

This event is free and open to the public but 21-plus only.

Egg Roll Fundaiser

Fans from around the state wait all year for their homemade egg rolls from the annual Hmong church fundraiser in Providence.

The Providence Hmong Church of the Christian Missionary Alliance Women will have the eggrolls for sale, first come first serve, starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the church at 46 Dexter St. in Providence. They are not taking pre-orders this year.

Farmers' Market

The Hope Street Farmers Market is back every Saturday at Lippitt Park in Providence from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1015 Hope St.

Puppy love

The Aloft Providence Hotel, 191 Dorrance St., Providence, has its first Yappy Hour Thursday, May 19, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., in conjunction with the Providence Animal Rescue League. PARL will have dogs to adopt onsite in the courtyard area of Aloft and attendees are urged to bring their pup friends as well. This event will be held every other week.

Vegetable Plant Sale

If you are shopping for organically grown vegetables (or flowers), the Green Animals Plant Sale runs through Saturday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at 380 Corys Lane, Portsmouth. The sale will take place each day before Green Animals opens for tours. Tickets will be required for anyone wishing to tour Green Animals or picnic on the grounds after the property opens at 10 a.m.

A variety of vegetables, as well as annuals, perennials, lilies and dahlia tubers were organically grown in their greenhouses and are just the right age for garden planting.
