Dallas is finally getting its own Jet's Pizza: This Michigan-based chain specializing in Detroit-style square pizza is opening a location at 6411 E. Northwest Hwy. #175, in the fancy-pants-sounding High Point Crossing center, where it will occupy a storefront between breakfast spot First Watch and Athletico Physical Therapy.

According to a company representative, it's slated to open in March.

This is the first location in Dallas proper although they have eight in the DFW area, but those are mostly spread across northern and western DFW including Fort Worth, Flower Mound, Frisco, Mansfield, Bedford, and North Richland Hills.

Detroit-style pizza is a hearty take: It's a rectangular shaped pie with a thick, crisp, chewy crust, with the cheese spread right to the edges, which gets crunchy and caramelizes as it melts against the high-sided pan in which it's baked.

The style became a big trend in DFW during the pandemic, creating a ready market for Jet's, which was founded in 1978 in Sterling Heights, Michigan. They now have more than 400 locations in 20 states.

Their claim to fame is their Detroit-style deep-dish square pizza with flavored crusts, quality ingredients, and dough prepared daily. You can get the pizza in a variety of sizes: small with six slices, large with 10 slices, and a special "4 Corner" Pizza with four slices, if you love the edges, which is the Detroit-style trademark.

Their flavor options include the Aloha BBQ with BBQ sauce, chicken, pineapple, and bacon; or the BLT with bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and mozzarella cheese.

The All Meaty has pepperoni, ham, bacon, Italian sausage, and hamburger, while the Veggie has mushroom, onion, green pepper, black olives, and tomato.

A "Eugene Supreme," named for founder Eugene Jetts, has Italian sausage, onion, green peppers, and mild peppers. A Deep Dish Duo comes with a small deep-dish pizza and an order of Deep Dish Bread, topped with melted cheese and served with choice of dipping sauce.

Another signature is flavored crusts, such as Cajun, butter, sesame seed, poppy seed, and garlic.

Beyond pizza, the menu also has wings, salads, breads, plus a variety of pizzas beyond deep dish including hand-tossed, New York-style, thin-crust, and gluten-free.

Their one-of-a-kind Jetzee sub sandwiches feature fillings such as deli meats or grilled chicken layered between "bread" made from pizza dough. Jet's Boats are another style of sandwich in which the pizza dough is fashioned into a pita-like shell.

Delivery is part of their DNA and, while they do have a couple of tables where you can sit on-site, most of their business is pickup and to go. They also have really good customer service.
