You've decided to add an aquarium to your living room and aren't sure where it would fit best in your decor then here are some suggestions we found by checking out what other people are doing. We've included ideas that range in size, cost, and application so you can customise a design to fit your living room space.

In the Wall

This might be the first place you think of when it comes to interesting places to keep a fish tank. Of course, this means more than just putting it up against the wall, which is a fine place but not any real design idea to speak of.

To do this you would need to find a place that has the wall indented in already or you would have to flip for the construction work. This design will take a lot of time and money unless you can do the work yourself. If this is a bigger job than you were looking for don't fear, there are other options that won't take that much work.

As A Coffee Table

Here we have a unique design that might cost a bit to find the right aquarium to meet the needs that are required to have a fish tank as a coffee table. You could buy one, but you should be prepared to shell out big bucks for it. I did a little searching and couldn't find one for less than eight-hundred dollars, which is quite an investment.

You could make your own, just be sure it's secure because some of them take more than twenty-five gallons of water and you don't want that leaking out on your new hardwood floors. Ideas like this are fun if you are into plants for betta fish. It's a fun way to add colour to an otherwise white or neutral-coloured room.

As A Column in The Room

Columns are a structural element that takes on the weight stress of the design. When it comes to putting a column fish tank in your home, it's probably a good idea to not create one that actually takes on that kind of pressure. Aquariums are made of glass and filled with water and life and a poor design can leave you with a broken tank and heart.

So, how do you create a column look? You could find a round table, put it in the middle of the room, and then put a circular tank on top of it. The structure can build from there but also remember that you don't want to put too much on top of your fish tank.

The easiest solution would be to structurally build one in your living room, which is possible if you have the means. If you don't have the budget for this specific of a design, then a make-shift column will work just fine. It will add a nice ancient look to your living room with an idea that goes back to the sixth century B.C

As A Room Divider

Since we are talking about wonderful room design ideas that were created centuries ago but are still used today how about the room divider? If you've never heard of one, they were invented in China and serve as an eyepiece and a way to create two spaces out of one by diving the room in two, hence the name.

This is one of the easiest ways to incorporate a fish tank in your living room and one of the least expensive on the list. All you have to do is get a good stand and put it in the area of the room you want to serve as middle ground between the two spaces. Another pro for this idea is that it will force you to create two spaces of function in your home.

In the Floor

Of all the ideas we've discussed this is by far the most difficult to achieve and probably the most expensive. But, if you have the finances and space to pull this off it will be the talk of the neighbourhood. Aquariums that are built into the floors of your home would need a strong cover, to say the least.

This is not a project we would recommend doing on your own unless you are a licensed contractor. The potential for damage to you and the fist is great so a project like this should not be taken lightly.

Conclusion

No matter where you choose to put your aquarium in your living room just having one to take care of will help you in more ways than you know. People who own fish tanks find them relaxing, which is as good a reason as any to get one. When you begin to design your space make sure to take the lighting into consideration, for the entire room as well as the fish tank.
