Men lose themselves in the art of aquascaping - The Times

Forget motorbikes. Middle-aged men are now displaying their virility by spending thousands on high-end aquariums and throwing themselves into the art of aquascaping.

The practice has been gaining popularity in recent years but interest has surged in the past 12 months, particularly among men aged between 30 and 50.

Advanced aquariums feature huge collections of plants and replicas of real-life forests and mountains, supported by carbon dioxide injector systems and lights controlled by smartphone. Fish may feature in the carefully curated scenes but many simply focus on plants.
