What is coming to the old ShopRite in New Dorp? - silive.com

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- After ShopRite moved to new digs in The Boulevard shopping center in New Dorp in October, the original 56,000-square-foot supermarket on Hylan Boulevard has sat dormant.

Since the larger state-of-the-art store opened in October, the developers of both shopping centers, the Long Island-based Kimco Realty, are actively seeking potential tenants to occupy ShopRite's former space at 2424 Hylan Blvd.

"ShopRite was a huge success right out of the gate," said Joshua Weinkranz, president of the northern region of the Kimco Realty, of the new larger supermarket in The Boulevard.

"We are talking to a handful of people for different types of uses. We are trying to get it leased as soon as we can," he said.

NEW SHOPRITE LOCATION

ShopRite's relocation was spurred by the opportunity to move into a larger 70,000-square-foot supermarket, located at 2656 Hylan Blvd. The supermarket serves as the anchor tenant and the first store to open in The Boulevard.

The modern layout of the new supermarket includes one that is conducive to an "easy flow shopping experience," said Kevin Mannix, store owner and operator, along with his son, Timothy Mannix, of Mannix Family Supermarkets, which also owns and operates two additional ShopRite supermarkets in Charleston and Graniteville.

At the time of opening, Mannix told the Advance/SILive.com: "We are excited because we are moving from our highest volume store to a bigger store. Similar to what we did when we opened in 2016 on Veterans Road [in Charleston], we are giving our customers more amenities and more services in a bigger store. We spent an enormous amount of time making sure the flow was easy and conducive to shopping. The adjective I want to use to refer to this store is 'spectacular'."
