Magoo’s Pet Outlet opening delayed again - The Morning Sun

A much-anticipated but oft-delayed new pet store in Mt. Pleasant missed a tentative opening target this past weekend but is still planning to open.

Matt McCord, CEO of Magoo's Pet Outlet, said in an email Monday that the store is expected to open sometime in August, and posted a notice on social media that the store has its occupancy plan.

His post came after Mt. Pleasant-area residents questioned why the store, located on East Pickard Street just east of Brown Street, the location of the former Redbird pet supply store, didn't open as planned on Sunday.

Curious social media users noted that the store's Facebook page lists it as "permanently closed," and a listing on BizBuySell, an online business selling marketplace, is listing the store for sale for $350,000 with $45,000 down.

With nine outlets in Michigan, Magoo's opened in 1986 and has locations in the Detroit area, Flint, Fenton, Owosso, Saginaw and Burton.

On the BizBuySell website, Magoo's is listed as looking for "qualified entrepreneurs" to buy franchises and noted that the current stores are "strong operating units located in multiple markets that have been extremely successful."

Magoo's Pet Outlets sell dog and cat food, supplies, small animals and accessories, tropical fish and reptiles, their supplies and other pet necessities.
