Poco F5 Packs A Powerful Punch In A Sleek Form Factor - Forbes

Poco is positioning the F5 as the true successor to the much-loved Poco F1. It is the first smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 processor, which makes it fast, at least in my experience. The lightweight form factor, combined with powerful performance, makes it an interesting proposition under Rs 30,000.

Comfortable-to-hold design with an immersive display

The Poco F5 weighs just 181 grams, making it one of the lightest smartphones in the segment. It is made out of polycarbonate material at the back, which helps keep the weight in check. I have the Snowstorm White color variant, which looks absolutely gorgeous. You can choose from Black and Blue color options as well, but the White one is my favorite because of the snowy patterns at the back. I recommend using it without a case.

The Poco F5 is one of the rare phones in 2023 that comes equipped with a headphone jack. The company tells me that its fans wanted the 3.5mm audio jack, which made it possible to add it to the device. Plus, there's an IR blaster to control electric appliances like fans, projectors, and more. Poco's latest phone is splash-proof with IP53 rating but don't take it inside the pool.

On the front lies a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It lies under the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. You get an FHD+ resolution and up to 1000 nits of brightness.

In terms of real-life performance, I liked consuming content on the device. The slim bezels make it an immersive experience. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ to enhance your TV series and movie watching experience. The colors were bright and vivid with no color shift on different viewing angles.

Poco F5 is power-packed and lasts a day

As mentioned above, the Poco F5 is powered by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset, paired with 8GB/12GB RAM, and 256GB of storage. In my one week of usage, I haven't come across any major stutters or lags in the UI. I played Call of Duty, which ran just fine for the few minutes I spent playing it. The swift app launch speed and multitasking features in the UI make it fast to use.

The Poco F5 runs MIUI 14 based on Android 13. It is promised to receive two years of major OS upgrades and three years of OS updates. Both are at least one year less than what I'd like to get from a device at this price point. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.3 and WiFi 6/6E. I didn't come across any call drops or WiFi issues. It can also play hi-res audio via the 3.5mm audio jack if you have compatible headphones.

The Poco F5 sports a triple rear camera setup. It is led by a 64MP primary camera, which is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide-angle camera and a 2MP macro sensor. The main camera clicks good photos with plenty of details in bright daylight, while the color remains constant on both primary and ultrawide-angle cameras. On the front, you get a 16MP selfie shooter, which is average.

The smartphone packs a 5,000mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging. It is said to take the phone from zero to 100% within 45 minutes. It lasted me a day with ease on medium usage throughout the week.

Poco F5 price and availability

The Poco F5 will be available on Flipkart starting May 16, 2023 in India. It comes in Carbon Black, Snowstorm White, and Electric Blue color options. The company is offering two years of warranty with the device.

You can get the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant for INR 29,999, while the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option will set you back at INR 33,999. As a special sale day offer, you can get the device at INR 26,999 and INR 30,999 for both variants, respectively. This includes an INR 3,000 off with ICICI debit and credit cards or an equivalent product exchange offer.
