AUBURN HILLS, MI – Grocery store employees have been the unsung heroes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Healthcare workers, police, fire and EMS personnel and others have also been essential, but at least one Michigan business is taking the time to single out those who have worked to keep the supply chain steady during a time when they are needed most.

Sea Life Michigan Aquarium, Michigan's largest aquarium, is offering complimentary admission for all grocery store workers on weekdays from Jan. 19 through Feb. 26 as a token of gratitude to the unsung men and women battling the coronavirus pandemic head on.

The Grocery Store Hero Appreciation Days free one-day admission can only be redeemed online and is valid for weekday visits, Monday-Friday, using this link: http://bit.ly/3sdLION.

"These grocery store workers are unsung heroes, tirelessly dedicating countless hours in our country's time of need, and it's not lost on us that they do so at the risk of their own health, and sacrificing time with their own families," said Hayley Anderson GM of SEA LIFE Michigan.

"In our small way, we hope this can bring a little more joy into their lives; and an opportunity for our nation's grocery store workers to spend a day enjoying carefree family fun."

Each grocery store employee can bring up to four guests who will receive 50% off admission as well. When arriving at the attraction, grocery store heroes must show their online ticket and their employee ID or valid pay stub to signify their work as a grocery store employee.

Sea Life is the world's largest family of aquariums and includes 10 aquariums in North America.

The Michigan location is inside Great Lakes Crossing Mall in Auburn Hills and features hands-on exhibits, a 180-degree underwater ocean tunnel and more than 250 species including sharks, jellies, stingrays, and two rescued sea turtles.

Abstract The global marine aquarium trade has created new local markets across the planet, including in Indonesia, now the second-largest exporting country of marine aquarium fish in the world. Participating in the global aquarium trade has been touted as a potentially sustainable addition to fisher livelihoods, but scant data exist showing the numbers of fish coming off the reef and how those fish contribute to income. To determine how participants in the trade incorporate aquarium species in their livelihoods, we examine source-level aquarium fish collecting and trading data in the Banggai Archipelago, a region in Central Sulawesi that has become a significant source for popular aquarium, also known as ornamental, fish species.
