CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) – Nicholas the dolphin, of Clearwater Marine Aquarium, "predicted" the winner of Super Bowl LV Tuesday afternoon… and he chose the Kansas CIty Chiefs.

"Nick" is a rescued bottlenose dolphin who is now famous for his predictions of sporting events, known as "Nick's Picks."

According to CMA, Nick has picked winners of Super Bowl match-ups since 2017. Last year, he correctly predicted the Kansas City Chiefs would defeat the San Francisco 49ers.

Nick is currently six for six in his recent sports predictions.

The dolphin is presented with a choice during his normal enrichment activities in the afternoon. An animal care specialist will present Nicholas with the choice between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football and a Kansas City Chiefs football for him to make a "choice" by touching his nose to the team's football he believes will win.

Animal Care Specialist Katelyn Scott spoke with 8 On Your Side's Daisy Ruth on Tuesday about the pick and Nick's streak of correct predictions. She also commented on how Nick is adapting to living in a new facility with a new friend, fellow male dolphin, "Hemingway."

"Nick's pick actually started back in 2017, so we've been doing it for almost 4 years now…. Everyday he gets a choice in his enrichment, so we throw in tons of toys and he chooses what he gets to play with," she said. "Then we've decided maybe he could pick some sports teams, and it started with the college national football championship when he picked Clemson to win over Alabama.'

The dolphin has been correct in his predictions since last year's Super Bowl, where he predicted the Kansas City Chiefs to win.

Officials with the aquarium sent out security video on Monday that shows what they say appears to be a truckload of fish sent to Nick from the Kansas City Chiefs.

"While generous, we can reasonably assume the gift to be a bribe in order to sway the favor of Nick when he makes his annual live prediction for the winning Super Bowl LV team," an aquarium spokesperson said.

It seems like the bribe may have worked, with Nick not even acknowledging the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football he was presented with Tuesday afternoon.

Nick was found stranded with severe sunburns, orphaned and unable to learn survival skills as a calf, so he remains a permanent resident of the aquarium, as he cannot be released back into the wild.

The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is hosting their "Big Game Week" through Sunday.

Scott said the aquarium will have football-themed food in the cafe, as well as football-themed animal enrichment happening throughout the days.

"We've got really cool commemorative cups and a fountain drink for all of our guests who come in wearing their favorite football team's gear and we're really excited for the pick!" she added.

If Nick was a football player, Scott is hopeful he would play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"I think for Nicholas he probably be a wide receiver and Hemingway would definitely be a linebacker, he's a pretty big guy," she laughed.
