The Phoenix Zoo's tiger exhibit just got a little more crowded.
Joanne, a 10-year-old female Sumatran tiger, came to Phoenix from the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. She is the offspring of a former Phoenix Sumatran tiger, Utan, who was born in 1990, the zoo said in a Facebook post on Monday.
Joanna was brought in as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan.
The Species Survival Plan is an off-site conservation plan that identifies population goals and recommends ways to manage a genetically diverse population, according to the Association of Zoos and Aquariums website.
The association adopted a Tiger Conservation Campaign in 2012 to encourage conservation efforts for Amur, Malayan, and Sumatran tigers.
Joanne is now the fifth breeding partner for the zoo's current Sumatran tiger, Jai. Joanne has previously produced offspring, according to the zoo.
Visitors can see the two tigers at the "Isle of the Tiger" exhibit on Tropics Trail from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
