New spots for chicken wings, beer, pork and oysters are on the way and, lucky for us, popular places for milkshakes and burgers are opening second locations.
Here are new restaurants opening in the Indianapolis area in September.
California Burger
6020 E. 82nd St, Indianapolis, californiaburgerinc.com
Projected opening: Sept. 1
California Burger opens its second location -- in Castleton -- not even a year after the opening of its west side debut that resulting in hour-long waits.
Owned by, you guessed it, a California native, the place will serve burgers made from fresh patties; melts, chicken sandwiches, wings, fries and shakes.
The Beerded Swine
501 N. College Ave., Indianapolis, thebeerdedswine.com
Projected opening: September
From Lisa Abendroth, the owner of the downtown Columbus, Ind.-based The Savory Swine, comes a two-story complex with a meat market and lounge offering wine and craft beer.
Stop by the Lockerbie Square digs for everything from custom-cut and grab-and-go meats to dine-in or take-out sandwiches like roast beef stacked with red pepper and onion relish plus blue cheese-marbled jack cheese. Take-out, heat-and-eat dishes will include The Savory Swine's popular lasagna with ground beef and housemade sausage. And custom charcuterie boards will be available to enjoy onsite.
Chicken Scratch
5308 N. Keystone Ave., Indianapolis, instagram.com/chickenscratchindy
Projected opening: September 5
Cajun restaurant Chef Tia & Co. is spinning off its popular gourmet wings and fries into a dedicated takeout spot in south Broad Ripple. Wings were the focus of the restaurant every Wednesday when it added extra house-made sauce options to the standard honey hot.
Look for cooked-to-order wings, chicken sandwiches, tenders and boneless wings along with piles of hand-cut fries, including crab fries topped with seasoned lump meat crab meat, Cajun aioli and parmesan cheese; and loaded garlic buffalo fries with housemade garlic Cajun ranch, hand-breaded chicken tenders, bacon, and Cajun seasoning.
Chicken Scratch had been slated to open near Chef Tia & Co at 4955 W. Washington St., until owner Tia Harrison decided on putting some space between the two.
Chef Tia & Co.
4955 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, 317-300-1411, cheftia.com
Projected reopening: Sept. 25
Speaking of space, Chef Tia & Co. reopens Sept. 25 after being closed for renovations since late April. It will have about twice the original 20-person seating capacity.
Coming back are the chicken and sausage gumbo, Cajun shrimp and grits and lamb chops. And new items include a fried seafood platter and crab cake sliders. Sadly, wings and most of the over-the-top loaded hand-cut fries are coming off of the menu and moving to the new Chicken Scratch brand.

The store, which will seat about 25 people, will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. initially.
