Dog Acts Like a Fish in Hilarious Viral Video - Newsweek
A dog flopping awkwardly in a pool of water has prompted an array of fish comparisons after a video went viral over the weekend.
The contented canine, which appears to be a Golden Retriever, was filmed floundering in a large puddle while spread out belly-down like a starfish.
As the camera zooms in, the playful animal clumsily pivots around resembling a floundering fish out of water.
"What kind of fish is this?" Reddit user NyankoSensei posted to the 'AnimalsBeingDerps' subthread on Sunday.
The 15-second clip has so far garnered 775 replies from curious observers in the 24 hours since it was first posted online.
"That's a flat tailed barker," one person replied, while another countered: You sure? Seems more like a yellow-bellied snout snoggler to me."
"This a golden pupper fish," another user empathically noted.
"It's a Land Seal," somebody else hit back. "Technically not a fish but close enough."
"It's actually not a fish," one person retorted. "If you look closely you can see that it has a blow hole on the front which is indicative of a marine mammal. Probably a type of whale. I'm not really up to date on whale species but it almost looks like a North Atlantic Aurum Ferre."
The Golden Retriever is among America's most popular dog breeds, according to the American Kennel Club.
The breeds are believed to "take a joyous and playful approach to life" and maintain this puppyish behavior into adulthood. They also enjoy outdoor play and were bred to retrieve waterfowl, making swimming a natural pastime and perhaps an explanation for the dog's unusual behavior in the video.
In December last year, a Golden Retriever named Captain was filmed with his snout against a fish tank, seemingly mesmerized by the fish inside.
"This is Captain. He loves his fishy frens," a caption written alongside the video read.
Just last month, a dog's unlikely reaction to a pond filled with fish melted hearts online.
In the footage, posted to TikTok by Karen Vick, a curious boxer can be seen intently looking into a pond filled with koi fish.
"Now do you want to get in with your friends? Go ahead, you can get in," the dog's owner is heard prompting her pet.
The dog then tentatively and gently steps into the water to see the fish up-close. The video has amassed 7.6 million views since it was first uploaded on July 25.
