The larger the aquarium, the more chance you'll get a wider picture of aquatic life.
Measured by tank size, here are the biggest aquariums in the United States.
14. New England Aquarium Plaza, Boston
The New England Aquarium in Boston opened its doors in 1969 and now attracts about 1.3 million visitors per year.
Its tank holds approximately 200,000 gallons of water and has a total of 20,000 sea animals for visitors to see.
13. North Carolina Aquarium, Fort Fisher
North Carolina has a number of Aquariums, which are all linked to one organisation.
The Fort Fisher aquarium reopened in 2002 and boasts a 235,000 gallon, two-story tank, with 2,500 creatures inside.
12. New York Aquarium
The New York Aquarium was founded in 1896 in Battery Park. It is now located on Coney Island and has 500 marine species inside.
The aquarium is spread over a 14 acre plot of land and the largest tank, which is used to exhibits sharks, opened in 2018 and holds 379,000 gallons.

The Newport Aquarium in Kentucky opened in 1999 and has 70 exhibits with its largest tank holding 385,000 gallons of water.

Monterey Bay Aquarium opened in 1994 and has four large tanks with over 200 additional exhibits for visitors to enjoy.
The largest tank holds 1.3 million gallons of water. This tank showcases the local coral reef system and its window is 90 feet long. Its second largest tank holds 300,000 gallons of water.
The aquarium has a total of 35,000 animals for visitors to enjoy.

The National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland, opened in 1981. It houses more than 20,000 animals for visitors to enjoy.
