Ted's Fried Clams in Shapleigh, Maine, Has New Owners After 72 ... - WJBQ

Theodore and his wife Grace " Gram" Mavrakos opened one of Maines's first clam shacks in the spring of 1950.

Throughout the years, Ted's has been a favorite for so many Mainer's who adored the Mavrakos family and their excellent restaurant.

Back in 1950, it was just a clam shack, but over the decades they have expanded adding seating and Rockhouse Ice Cream! After 72 years the Mavrakos sold the family business to Jason A. Cole. Jason was born and raised in Southern Maine. Many of his fondest memories, were visiting Ted's in the springtime with his parents and grandparents. It was a tradition the family loved. So when Cole saw the restaurant up for sale, he had to jump on it. Jason and his wife Laura had always dreamed of owning their own family restaurant and now that dream has come true.

Jason, unfortunately, lost his wife Laura unexpectedly in February of 2021. Jason alongside their 5 children, has been working to honor her life and Legacy, with Laura's Legacy of Love. A non-profit set up to help those that need a hand. Laura was deeply involved in the community. Ted's will continue to grow this year, going from seasonal to year-round service.

With the award-winning chef, Melissa DeLuc, who is excited to bring her creativity to Ted's,

I am very excited to be joining the Cole family as the executive chef of Ted's fried clams as the newest Chef I will be adding a full breakfast menu that will have lots of traditional items as well as some unique twists. Keep your eye out for some pretty crazy daily specials. I look forward to getting to know the Shapleigh community, and I look forward to making your breakfast, a memorable experience.

Ted's Fried Clams and Rockhouse Ice Cream will go from seasonal to year-round for the first time in 72 years. Look for the doors to open this month!
