More than 40 Columbus restaurants got perfect scores in February. Here’s the list - Columbus Ledger-Enquirer

Health inspectors passed all the Columbus restaurants they visited in February, including three new restaurants and food trucks that received initial inspections.

Panaderia Tia Rosa, which specializes in Mexican food, earned a perfect score in its initial inspection on Feb. 23. The restaurant is at 1671 S. Lumpkin Rd., and is open every day except Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Another new establishment, Mainely Lobster, earned a perfect score in its health inspection. While the food truck will specialize in lobster, it also plans to put an emphasis on blueberries to honor Maine's position as a leading producer of the fruit.

A new Korean barbecue restaurant chain called KPOT also earned a perfect score in its initial inspection last month. The franchise is now open at 5592 Whitesville Rd.

Inspectors visited 85 restaurants, lounges and bars inspected in February, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. Of the 81 Columbus businesses offering food services that received "A's" in their routine inspections, 48 of them earned perfect scores. And four earned "B's".

How the grading works

Restaurants receive one of four letter grades that are assigned based on how many points are deducted from 100:

  • "A" grades mean food safety is excellent is achieved by receiving 90-100 points

  • "B's" are issued when there is "satisfactory compliance" with the business receiving 80-89 points

  • "C's" mean there is marginal compliance and applied to scores between 70-79

  • "U's" represent unsatisfactory compliance and are applied to scores of 69 or less.

Establishments that receive a "C" or "U" food safety grade will have at least one additional routine inspection added in a twelve month period, according to state law.

Residents can find information on all health inspections on the Georgia Department of Health's online portal.
