Star Ocean The Second Story R - Fishing Guide and Fish Locations - RPG Site

One of the new components in Star Ocean The Second Story R is a fishing minigame. This page basically should have everything you'd want to know about fishing in the game; most importantly locations for the different species.

You can start fishing by the time you get to Krosse and can access the IC/Speciality Skills menu. Fishing ability is tied to the Item Knowledge and Biology Skills. Spend SP on these skills will make fishing easier.

Fishing itself is extremely simple. As you approach any body of water (sometimes including water-filled pots in shops), a fishing rod icon will appear about the controlled character's head. Press R1/RB to see a list of catchable fish in the area, as well as to choose your bait. Press the interact button to actually begin fishing, and press it again when a '!' appears. That's it.

Later on, you will meet a new character in the remake, a fishing prodigy named Reel. Found in Harley, she basically acts as the primary fishing NPC in the game, offering rewards for catching different types of fish, as well as other items. Reel shows up in two places: Harley on Expel, and L'Aqua on Nede. Her offerings at each place are identical.

Note that rare listed as "Rare" require the Masterwork Rod in order to be caught, which is the reward from Reel for catching 15 kinds of fish.
