Birmingham Zoo warns of online ticket scam - WBRC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - The Birmingham Zoo is warning people to be wary of a scam circulating on social media. The scam seemingly offers a good deal on tickets, but you could end up losing a lot trying to save a few bucks.

An advertisement circulating on social media is offering tickets at nearly half their normal price for the Birmingham Zoo to celebrate a "70th anniversary". However, zoo officials say it's all fake.

According to the zoo, they've gotten multiple calls and emails not only alerting them of the scam, but unfortunately from a few people who had fallen victim.

Before completing a purchase, the Birmingham Zoo asks visitors to check their official social media accounts or to call or email them about any special events and ticket prices, and they caution that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

"It was a really really low price, and it was a scam, so as soon as we saw it we reported it to Meta immediately and so hopefully they're going to be bringing it down," said Bill Lang, Director of Marketing and Events for the zoo. "Word for the wise, if you see that, just hit delete, don't click on it because they want to get your credit card info."

Lang also points out in that fake advertisement, it claims the low prices are celebrating the zoo's 70th anniversary, but he says the zoo's true 70th anniversary isn't until 2025.
