NEBRASKA CITY  - Although the flathead catfish 10-year-old Isaiah Sellers caught is shy of the state record by about 50 pounds, he still has the making of a legendary fish story.

The 36-pounder was caught at the pond at Nebraska City's Steinhart Park, where there are regular stockings of trout but large catfish are rare.

Sellers was fishing with his friend Nova, grandfather and Nova's dad Sean Wulf.

Sellers: "My rod tip … so first I had slack in my line then my rod tip just got jammed down just like that.  Then I knew I had a fish on."

For bait, Sellers used a warmouth, a dark-colored sunfish, he had caught earlier.

He struggled with the catfish on the reel for about 15 minutes before Wulf used a net to bring him on shore.

Wulf: "It took all of us to get him in. He's a monster."

Nova videotaped the action about an hour before dusk on Saturday.

The kids say the fish will be returned to Steinhart Pond for someone else's giant fish story.
