Needy fish begs for cuddles from his owner Bon Shaw in Missouri - Metro

You probably don't think of fish being particularly affectionate, but this one is shattering that stereotype.

A blood parrot cichlid flares his gills and swims from side to side every time his owner, Bon Shaw from Blue Springs in Missouri, walks into the room.

Shaw's video of the adorable fish has racked up more than 1.4million views since he uploaded it to YouTube.

He said: 'This little guy just loves to watch me wherever I am in the room. He'll do anything to get my attention.

'When I look at him he flares out his gills and dances from side to side just hoping that I'll come over to play. If I drop food in the aquarium he'll ignore it and hope to play.

'I have to walk away to get him to go find the food, which has floated away by then.'

Shaw also has another blood parrot cichlid who lives in a separate tank, but he's not as cuddly – although Shaw believes he still loves him.

'It's like having one dog and one cat,' he said. 'You just have to love the differences.'

Blood parrot cichlids have been known to enjoy a bit of pampering – including one who liked getting a daily 15minute massage from its owner, Roland Giroux.
